Fields of Expertise:
- Cancer Biology: Oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, cell cycle modulation, p53, cyclins, cyclin-dependent kinases, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (Cip1/p21, Kip1/p27), apoptosis, and mitogenic and anti-apoptotic signaling pathways, transcription factors, cancer cell metabolism, miRNA.
- Cancer Pharmacology: Chemoprevention of cancer by natural and synthetic agents – cellular, biochemical and molecular mechanisms employing biochemical and molecular biological techniques. Evaluation of cancer chemopreventive potential of dietary constituents employing several long-term animal tumor bioassay protocols, and short-term animal and cell culture assays. Therapy of cancer by natural and synthetic agents – cell culture studies and nude mice xenograft models. Cancer models include prostate, breast, lung and liver.
- Epigenetic Pharmacology: Chemopreventive effects on chromatin regulation pathways such as histone acetylation and histone methylations and cross talk between post-transcriptional modifications.

Dr. Bhatia is a professor in the Department of Pharmacogenomics in Bernard J Dunn School of Pharmacy, Shenandoah University in Fairfax campus, Virginia. Dr. Bhatia has extensive experience in pharmaceutical education, research and training medical, pharmacy and graduate students. Dr. Bhatia’s primary research interest encompasses cancer biology, cancer therapeutics and cancer prevention. His laboratory is associated with investigating mechanism-based chemopreventive and therapeutic effects of various medicinal plants, natural products, dietary and synthetic agents using various pre-clinical models of cancer.
Dr. Bhatia has extensively published original research papers and authoritative review articles, book chapters, and have presented over numerous papers at various national and international scientific meetings. Dr. Bhatia is the
Editor of two journals and has acted as guest editor of numerous journal thematic issues. Dr. Bhatia is likewise serving as an editorial board member and ad-hoc reviewer of many reputed journals.
